CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

The College Code of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Processes

      Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College having pride for responsibility of students and the social, educational and other  atmosphere of its campus. 

        The  students of the college are held accountable for their conduct at every times .    Any student found for   

 academic , social and educational  unfairness  are subject to  disciplinary action taken  by academic in charge and  subsequent  authority.

        The  college has the authority to withdraw the privilege of attending  classes by the student  for any unlawful  activities  committed inside the campus.

         The following considerations lays  the foundation  of the students conduct , expectations and  codification  and adopting   processes for assessing  student conduct

           1.The college, a provincialised  institution having distinctive and  unique history  establishes its identity  as a     pioneer institution.  

  1. The  Bye -Law of the college  regulates the faculty members  with responsibility  towards the betterment  of students  and  formulated the conditions  to be followed  for their education .           3.  The college  standards  of  code and procedures  adopted  for determining responsibility  for any conduct  detrimental   to the college  reflect in its particular mission and history.
  2. By registration in Under graduate courses  at college students   voluntarily enter to an Educational  society  with  basic standard of academic responsibility  and  respect for person and property. Students should have follow the code of conduct and become responsible in relation  to their conduct after enrolled into the college. The college  reserves the right to deal with any unlawful  activities , whether or not law enforcement agencies are involved or criminal charges may be pending.                                                                                                                                                                     

          College Code of  Students  conduct

               The  code of college are made with a view to express itself  on the standard of honesty , loyal to persons and property . Students are responsible for reading and  knowing the code of student conduct , and  their responsibilities from the time of enrolment into the college. Grievance  Redressal  Cell of the college  should  have enough knowledge about the code of conduct and judicial proceeds to   help the  students in respect of their  grievances.

       Rajiv Gandhi Memorial  College is  an institution deeply concerned about intellectual exchange and committed  to the principles of academic freedom and integrity .The Faculty , staff and students of the college are fully  dedicated  for ushering an environment that upholds the highest standards of fairness, integrity and respect in all academic  effort.

Violations of Academic Integrity

Violations of principles and practices of  academic integrity are categorised into ( 1)  Plagiarism and misuse of sources and (2)  Cheating.

  1. Plagiarism and Misuse of Sources

The word plagiarism  means  presenting someone else’s work or ideas as own with or without others consent. Failure to acknowledge the work of others can lead a reader , listener and viewer to think that information ,words ,images ,data and creative elements are the woks of students own effort .

            Plagiarism and misuse of sources carry different consequences as described in Rajiv Gandhi  Memorial     College  academic Integrity procedures.     Works in  which students must acknowledge sources and the  contributions  of others includes but is not limited to draft and final version  of the following:

  • Talks and other oral presentation
  • Visual  aids , presentation with slides etc.
  • Website, webpage and other multimedia works.
  • Project chapters and other writings.   
  • Exams ,including in class ,online and take home exams .

2     Cheating

           Cheating includes violating existing norms for academic  inquiry  established by faculty for particular assignment  or using other methods including technology to attain  academic benefits.  Examples   of cheating  includes  but are not limited to the followings.

  • Unauthorised collaboration
  • During examination , preparing assignments using materials not permitted .
  • Receiving assistance beyond permitted level .
  • Manufacturing fabricated  and misleading data.
  • Providing assistance duly acknowledging that the person is attempting to cheat and plagiarize  .

Violations of academic integrity are among the most serious offences that students can   commit ; Any  violation  may lead to consequences at both the course and institutional level.

  1. Social   Misconduct

R.G.M  College students  are held  accountable all the time for their conduct and  behaviour. Any student involve in disorderly behaviour , making disturbances, infringes  with the rights of others, damaging property , individually  or  collectively   involve in  any kind  of socially  unacceptable behaviour  both within the campus or outside the campus shall  be subject  to Discipline Monitoring cell .

A   “student” is  defined as someone who has passed H.S  exam  and  has gained  status of student with the college  for handling disciplinary matters. Students retain  studentship throughout their careers  at  R. G. M  college , including academic terms, scheduled vacations, periods of leave , or off campus study .

In situations  where it may not possible to resolve a case prior to a student’s guardian , the governing body may cause the student’s degree to be withheld until the case is fully resolved.

  The college code apply  in  the following  misconduct  committed off campus.

  1. Misconduct occurs in connection with a college sponsored programme or students representing college in any event.
  2. Directly affects fellow member of the college community.
  3. Suggest a potential danger or a threat to others.

General categories of social misconduct

      The following categories describes the expectations of the college  and provide the examples of misconduct subject to the college discipline.

  1. Actions against Individual.
  2. Action against property.
  3. Dangerous or Improper conduct. Dangerous or Improper conduct.
  4. Involving activities against the Institution.
  5. Obstruction in college works and procedure.
  1. Actions against Individual

Any conduct which involves force ,coercion , intimidation directed towards an  individual or group of persons may constitute an “Action against persons”

Illustrations: 

Assault

It includes undesirable  physical contact as well  as fighting and physical altercations.

Sexual Misconduct

 The adjudication of sexual misconduct and harassment ( e.g rape , sexual assault , dating violence ,domestic violence  and  stalking)  are in accordance with Government policy and established law.

Hazing

           The college prohibits injurious hazing , defined as any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or the physical health of a student.

Harassment, Intimidation or bullying

This includes acts of intimidation, stalking, verbal slurs , insult , physical force or threat of physical force made with the intention of causing fear, intimidation , humiliation  and disruption to the educational environment or damage to property .   Such acts   may be committed in person or  through any electronic means. 

  1. Actions against  property

Any  conduct which involves damage of property of another person or property of the college or using another’s property  for personal use may constitute an  action against  property.  Examples of  actions against  property includes theft, damaging the property of another person or   of the  College and illegally entering college facilities.

Theft 

           Any  conduct of steal or knowingly possessing  stolen property  or any  item reasonably  thought  to be lost and not abandoned .

Damaging  the property of another person or of the college

Action  against  students will be initiated for  involvement of students for any kind of  act causing damage to the property of the college including their own rooms  which is subjected to monetary loss as assessed  by the authority of the college . 

 

 Illegally Entering college Facilities

Illegal possession of any keys , uses,  passwords , including  duplication of keys or  any other means of access.

  1. Dangerous or disorderly  conduct 

             Dangerous or disorderly conduct  means any conduct that is dangerous to self or others or any conduct that comes in the way  of college’s  essential functions  . The college’s standards of  conduct debarred from     unlawful possession , use ,or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by the students as well as staff members ,

       

                 Violating the colleges alcohol policy

             Rajiv Gandhi Memorial college observes all  codified  laws relating to alcohol beverage  within the . College campus  and  students   are held accountable  for any kind of  violation  of college alcohol policy The   prohibition of  Rajiv Gandhi  Memorial  College student  conduct  code include , but not  limited to the  Following: 

  1. The sale of alcoholic beverages  by any individual   to a  person who

The prohibitions of the RGM College students  code of conduct  include but are not limited to the followings.

1) Any persons who has not attained the age of 21 years selling alcoholic beverages.

2) Any person who has not attained the age of 21 years furnishes, procures  or delivers alcoholic beverages.

3) Possession or consumption of hard alcohol by any students on the premises of college at any college sponsored events or while the students is engaged in a college related activity.

4)  Consumption or purchase of alcoholic beverages by any person who has not attained the age of21 years.

5) The sale of alcoholic beverage by any person who does not have a license to sale such beverage in full force.

                Any violation of this policies attract disciplinary action which includes confiscation of material, entering into the college premises, debarring the students from using college facilities ,  and  also college authority reserve the  right to use law enforcement authority or undertake legal proceeding against any students violating the policy as coded.

Disorderly conduct

Any conduct which influences the freedom and activities of others or any conduct which creates nuisance , disruption constitute disorderly conduct .

1)Urination or defecation in any location not designated for that purpose.

2) Conduct which disrupt normal operations of the college .

 Actions against the institution

          Any conduct which include the unauthorized accessing or any modification of documents  or  records of college including class papers and examinations or any improper use of college resources may constitute an action against the institution.

1) Altering a college ID

2) Tampering with college documents or records by hand or electronically.

3) Misappropriation of college funds.

4) Claiming falsely to represent the college or a college registered organization.

5) Use of any college resources, including electronical and physical , in support of any for- profit enterprise.

6) Information, network, computer, social media account, and telephone violations.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHING AND NON-TEACHING STAFF

The  code of conduct of teaching and non-teaching staff are guided by govt. service rules as prescribed time to time.

   In addition to this, the institution frames some guidelines which requires every employee to follow inside the college campus.

1)The employee of the institution needs to enter and exit in the college on prescribed time.Teachers must report in time to duty as per  the working hours prescribed should be available in the campus unless and otherwise they are assigned duties elsewhere prior written permission should be obtained for reporting late in morning  or leaving early in the evening  or absent  in a certain day.

2) No employee allowed to use mobile phone while performing classes.

3) Employees are not allowed to enter the college campus intoxication state.

4) Smoking and using of tobacco product are strictly prohibited inside college campus.

5) Employees are not allowed to indulge in any political activities which diminish the reputation of college vis a vis harm the educational atmosphere.

6)employer are debarred from using any abusive language, any sexual offence to student, a employee of opposite sex, any eve teasing or any other act of social misconduct.

7) Act against the instruction or the direction of the higher authority concern.

8) Any act against the rules and regulations  of Examination as prescribed by the University.

9) Teachers should good councilor and facilitators. They should help, guide ,encourage and  assist  the students to ensure that the teaching learning process process is effective  and success.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR GOVERNING BODY

The code of conduct  of Governing Body are guided by government rules as prescribed times to time .However , Governing may be under  the jurisdiction of the code of conduct.

  • The matter which are proposed and passed through the academic council approved by the governing body after thread bear discussion  also the governing body endorse the prescribed syllabus and  and  courses .
  • The Governing body prescribed  rules for admission  in  accordance with reservation policy of the state as well national policy.
  • Constitute academic council and such other bodies as necessary for the  institution .
  • Governing body are required to avoid the use of institute resources  or time for personal gain, for the benefit of persons/ organizations unconnected with the institution.
  • Governing body members avoid giving or receiving  gifts , hospitality , preferential treatment  or benefits which might affect the institution .
  • The Governing body has complete administrative autonomy and have the privilege of appointing  administrative  and teaching faculty which approved by the government.
  • Government body members will not allow management or employees to b involve in outside employment which is conflict with the affairs of the institution.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PRINCIPAL OF THE COLLEGE

          The code of conduct of the principal  is guided by the government rules and regulation. However , the followings may be traditional rules supposed to follow by the principal for smooth functioning of the college.

1) Principal is the academic and administrative head of the institution who implements the policies prescribed by the highest decision making body  of the college and government policies .                                                                                                                                2)He/ She maintained coordination among various bodies both statutory and non-statutory bodies of the college .He /She is ex-officio members of governing body, chairmen of academic council , finance committee , officer in-charge of examination ,all the functions of admission, examination etc are monitor by the principal.                       3).The principal nominate-co-ordinators  , conveners  and administrative functionaries in the administration.

4) The meetings of the governing bodies are conducted by the principal with prescribed    guidelines .

5) The governing and academic council assist the principal in the matters of policy and decision implementation.

6) The principal closely monitor the class work in accordance with prescribed time tables and annual calendar with help of faculty members.

7) In matters related to academic works he/she assisted by the head of the departments.

8) The principal regularly hold meetings of head of departments to review the progress of the academic works and instruct the head of the departments for remedial class when it is necessary .

9) principal assisted by the assistant officer in-charge of examination in the matters of internal examination , semester end examination for both theory and practical, result analysis ,with held candidate.

10) Principal shall also ensure quality assurance and he/she should be assisted by coordinator of IQAC.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ACADEMIC COUNCIL

  • Inconsistent with government policy academic council makes regulations regarding the admission of students to different programmes of study in the college .
  • Academic council makes regulations for sports, extra-curricular activities and for playgrounds and other related matters.
  • Academic council advice governing bodies for any matters forwarded to it on academic affairs.
  • Perform any such other functions as forwarded by the governing bodies.
