  • A departmental seminar of the Topic “Womens writing on Indian English Novel (15th Sept/2018) was arranged.
  • The North East Graduate organised by the USTM the Rajiv Gandhi memorial College has joined and participated in many events in the said programme.

 

  • The English Department has arranged a drama competition in collaboration with Assamese department on “Abhijnan Shakuntalam” which was attended by such renowned drama Personalities of Assam like Jotin Bora from Guwahati.
  • Moreover, Drama shows on Various topics on the syllabus to create interest among the students  as well as to Provide additional in formation.

 

 

  1. SWOC analysis of the department and future plans :
  • Strength : English Department of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College, Lengtisinga can take Pride in having some of most enthusiastic and dedicated Teachers of the College. Departmental Seminars are being held regularly to improve the overall Performance of the Students. But in addition to the formal methods, the greatest strength of the department has been the teachers students intimate relationship that has kept the department alive. In sufficient number of classrooms also sometimes creates Problem.
  •  Weakness : The Socio-Cultural background of the students many whom are first generation learners from poor and backward families is a major drawback for the development of the department.
  • Opportunities : However the learners are always made aware of the wide scope for their future. Efforts are on to enhance the quality of the students by giving them opportunities of interaction with senior faculty members  of other institution like Abhayapuri College and Nabojoyti College kalgachia.
  • Challenges : The Placement of the output in different Government and non-government sectors and self employment is one of the main challenges before the department when the opportunity of getting absorbed in the Traditional sectors in narrowing day by day by day unveiling new sectors of employments is urgent necessity of the time. Making the students of the department of English  a ware about such evolving areas is another challenge before the department. 
  1. Teaching Methods adopted to improve students learning.
  • In addition to the traditional chalk and talk method classes, special classes, integrative classes by applying group discussion, question answer.  Demonstration method are arranged to encourage the students and there by improve their learning. Seminar, Home work frequently organized by the department to help the students acquire knowledge, skill and self confidence. During the study leave special classes are held for the slow learners with special attention. The hidden creativity of the students is manifested through the Publication of wall Magazines in the department.
  • Participation in Institutional social responsibility (ISR) and Extension activities.
  • Students are encouraged to take part in various NSS activities.
  • Students Projects : Percentage of students who have Taken up in house projects including interdepartmental/programme.
